a couple weeks (or was it months) ago, i started lifting heavily to try and get in shape before spring to impress a girl (shut up, i know). my curl went from about 75 (on a grooved curling barbell) to around 90 in just 2 weeks, but i guess it was just too much too fast and i got a sharp pain in my right forearm. i went to the doc and basicallyi have tendonitis. i was instructed to leave my arm alone for 6 months, but being the moron i am i decided to continue lifting, just with lighter loads. now the pain has shot up through the elbow into my tricep region. i dont really want to drag my ass to the doctor's office again, so i was wondering if any of you guys have had experiences like this and had any advice. right now im just taking ibuprofin with each meal and rubbing bengay on the region twice a day ish. thanks.

Ugh, my exboyfriend used to get tendonitis in his elbows from lifting. He had small joints and a lot of muscle and I think it just taxed his body.

He would take anti-inflammatories and alternate between icing and heating the injured region. He didn't stop working out entirely, he would just go lighter on exercises that targeted the injured area until it started feeling better. Also make sure to keep gently stretching - might not feel great at first, but it will help keep your flexibility.

6 months seems like an extremely long time to me -- I had tendonitis in my knees very badly a couple years ago, attempted to train through it and just made it worse and worse - finally I took about 2 weeks off from any and all exercise and was fine when I came back. But if you do that and jump right back into the exercise that injured you to begin with, you may just start the cycle all over again. So I would suggest after you heal, to take things a bit slower and let your body work up to the higher weights gradually.
