Swick via Unanimous Decision, despite a point deduction for grabbing the fence

Not sure how Davis' corner man could tell him he had the fight after it ended, even with the deduction.

Swick fought an okay fight. I wish he'd use his straight punches more.

Swick looked terrible again and appears to have traded off his attributes with Josh Koscheck circa 2005. Horrible fight.

I was a little surprised that both fighter seemed to want to clinch and take the fight to the ground rather than trade on their feet. I would have thought Davis would have wanted to make it a striking match.

Did you see their reach differential? Davis was giving up 7 inches to Swick. Maybe he didn't want to exchange.

I thought Swick looked tired throughout, until he lost the pont, near the very end, then he went all crazy.

I don't understand him, why not turn on the heat earlier? This is a three round fight afterall and we are paying customers.

Davis just didn't look himself.

Swick fought a smart gameplan for staying away from Davis' hands, using his looping shots, kicks, clinches, takedowns and various dull strategems.

But was I the only one who thought Swick looked like he might just expire from malnutrition/exhaustion at any moment? Rogan mentioned him coming from a great camp and I immediately thought he meant some kind of Burmese slave labour camp instead of AKA.

I was expecting Swick to use straight punches. He used to have decent speed, and he had a good reach advantage, so he could've been picking off with the jab. The fact that he didn't really brings up the point Newman mentioned: Swick's game seems to be moving five steps back instead of one foot forward.

I agree. Not to mention the fact that sooner or later Kos/Fitch/Swick will have to fight each other and if they don't it will be bullshit. Unfortunately for Swick he's one of those fighters that's just caught between weight classes, too small for 185 and too big for 170. This is why I hate weight cutting and wish fighters would just fight at their natural weight.

The thing is, I don't think Swick *is* too small for 185. Okami overpowered him sure, but Okami overpowers like everyone he fights outside of Franklin who's a giant too. Nobody is saying Jason MacDonald or Alan Belcher or Evan Tanner should cut to 170lbs because Okami overpowered them, are they? And I'm sure if any of those guys did, they'd look as anemic as Swick does. Swick didn't get outmuscled by Loiseau or Riggs. Why not just stick with 185?

Why not just stick with 185?

Other than the obvious reason?

;) He definitely should stick wherever he feels most comfortable though and it appears from his respective performances that it would be 185

Agreed. I always thought Swick's reasoning for dropping down to 170 was a bit of BS.

And I think Okami is in a way pretty much overhyped as this incredible monster with freakish muscle. His "strength" largely comes from his techniques, and if they feel as if they are trying to move a mountain when they clinch with him, I think that says more about their lack of strong non-BJJ grappling base than about Okami's "strength".
