Kampmann at 186 nice. lets see how he looks. has Alves failed to make weight before?

Kampmann, good to see. That means he at least isn't UNDER weight. He probably cut some this time around.
Thiago Alves was suspended once for using a dieretic (spelling) that he claimed he was using to cut weight. Apparently he's a big boy. 4lbs over, however, is a bit extreme. You don't suppose he was hanging out with Gina much do you?

Goddamn.....I hope that doesn't throw him off mentally too badly. It will definately work to motivate Hughes. Poor form on Alves...

I'm only guessing but perhaps he wanted to be extra big and strong to keep Hughes of him and overshot his target and had a hard time cutting...
Inexcusable just the same though...

It's just such a bad mistake by Alves. There's been plenty of positive hype about him becoming a new challenger for GSP and that's all gone tits up now.

I wonder if the travel threw him off?

Alves is my favorite up and coming WW, but it's pretty disappointing to see he came in over 4lbs. it was also kinda lame how he was portrayed in the UFC 85 countdown. you see Matt the hardworking farm boy, and then you see Alves the guy that parties all night in Miami to look for woman....then he comes overweight.
kinda kills the buzz a bit haha.

Something else to consider is if he does beat Matt Hughes, him being overweight will invalidate the win to the fans. Sure, 4lbs isn't going to make a world of difference in the fight when you consider how much Hughes probably cut as well, but it still leaves people feeling like he had an easier road to victory by not cutting as much as his opponent.

Before the public weigh-in, either he was running between the sauna and the scale, struggling to make weight but couldn't do it. That would take a toll on his body. Or he just didn't care to go through the effort of trying to get down to 170 lbs. Just from the looks of it on the weigh-in, I'd guess the latter.

What was Hughes gonna do? Cancel the 3rd or is it 4th different headlining fight that this UFC 85 has had? It could have killed off the UFC-Britian connection for a while with another disappointment, not that a guy coming in 4 plus helps the cause. he's a strong farmboy and now even has a built in excuse in defeat. It's a plus-plus. What did he fight Royce at, 175? Not that Royce 175 = Alves 175, but just saying.
