I watched three fights and they were all entertaining. Nothing to complain except NYBA's loss.

I enjoyed hearing Jimmy Lennon Jr doing the fighter announcements.

And did anyone else think Gus Johnson and Mauno sound similar?

It wasn't a thumb in Smith's eye, it was an index and middle finger. Two fingers in the eye.

not a bad event. production was okay.

i would rate it somewhere between a UFC fight night and a UFC PPV.

it was 23 minutes before the first fight started by my clock.
and ran over by like 40. not good for a network broadcast.

Yeah, they clearly miscalculated how much time to allot for the show.

I thought the production was solid. i still am up in the air about the dancing girls, but the pre fight interviews and the fire work enterances were great. Its to bad Shaw doesn't do that for his boxers.

Yeah, the dancing girls. Lame. And this coming from someone who normally gets turned on watching girls dance. How much does it take to force them to ditch that? Should we get Shaw's son locked in somewhere and torture him? It's his son's idea, right?

Anyway, being on prime time network TV is a big deal, and the whole controversy surrounding this show seems caused by that. It affects EVERYONE. Network TV is usually paranoia, and that shit is contagious. It's a lot of pressure.

The last thing I wanted from this show was controversial officiating/judging, and that's exactly what we got. That's the most damning part for me. Hardly a great show that deserved to be the first-ever MMA on a major network, as it was lacking both in the educational aspect and impact, but I hear that the show got good ratings. I guess it was a success then, for now.

The third time is usually the most important one, and they got the chance/right to at least reach that point to be truly tested.

Shaw's son should be dropped out of a helicopter, hands tied behind his back somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.

That has nothing to do with the dancing girls stuff. Its on the general principle he's currently the worst human being on the entire Earth.

But anyway, there's NO excuse for over-running by so such a ridiculous amount of time. A few (literally less than ten) is one thing but over 40 minutes is an absolute disgrace and just made them look utterly unprofessional.

They had enough time for 4 fights, not 5, but even then, the first three fights lasted a total ring time of about 8 minutes.

Some truly awful refereeing as well in the main event.

+1

I don't mind running over, but there was really no excuse for this one to run that long considering the way it logistically broke down with early stoppages and essentially dead air in terms of fights. I'm just glad the local affiliates all (from what I've heard thus far at least) stayed on it and didn't cut over to news at 10, which would have been the final straw as Lawler-Smith wouldn't have even been half over at that point. The fact that all save the first 2 had some sort of controversy implied in them as well is just not a good thing no matter how one spins it.
