Rousimar was impressive. a very good bet at +125. great takedown straight to side control. mount. back mount. rnc attempt. transition. armbar. tap. the transition was pretty imo. made salaverry look pretty bad.

Real shame for Ivan. I met Ivan at an autograph signing and he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet. I wish him well.

He's just too small for 185.

Ivan gets well over 200 without being fat. I don't think he's too small. What I think is his biggest problem is the same thing Hughes said about Royce "He's the best guy at his gym and he trains with his students". Ivan doesn't have anybody at his gym that can best him at anything. Therefore he's teaching/training himself. I also think he's getting past his prime. He had mentioned retirement if this fight didn't go well and nobody who's on fire and in their prime would be talking like that.

Too bad for Salaverry, I like him a lot. He had some great fights in the past (the one with Semenov was just plain awesome).

Palhares' BJJ is very nice, compact and powerful. I hope to see him fight again soon...

I don't see Rousimar Palhares doing much in UFC.

He's a VERY powerful, very skilled BJJ practitioner and is from a great camp but I just see him as a low rent Ricardo Arona. He seemed utterly focused only on submissions and I'm just not sure he's well-rounded enough to make an impact.

if i was absolutly pwning somebody on the ground too, i think i would also stay utterly focused on the submission. i think its unfair to judge him at this point. Ivan didnt test him one bit. im gonna give him another fight and see what happens.

He walked through that Fury FC GP like it was nothing, as long as he gets the takedown and he isnt fighting Maia, I think he will give a lot of guys problems.

I just see him as a low rent Ricardo Arona.

That's a rather scathing review imo. I mean in nine fights he already has twice as many submission victories as Arona has after like eight years. Arona is the all time king daddy of LnP. Toquinho is currently maintaining an average finish rate of 87.5%.

"Focused only on submission" and "Arona" are practically mutually exclusive. It took him over nine minutes to submit that one Russian noob dude.

And did we ever figure out who Paul Harris is?

Stylistically Arona is a bad comparison. It was more due to both Palhares and Arona being very powerfully built. So thats me self-pwned, lol.

We'll see what he does. I may just be shitty judge of talent.

He reminded me more of Filho as Filho was in PRIDE actually. I have high hopes for him. Plus his shoulders are fucking monstrous.
