Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares:

i've been searching for Rousimar's credentials since forever, prior to his UFC debut. found nadaaaa.

reason being is, he doesn't really have any haha. basically, he was a poor farm boy in Minas Gerais, living in Brazil, he naturally grew a passion for BJJ.

he traveled from Minas Gerais to Rio to pursue his dream of being an MMA fighter. when he arrived, he went straight to BTT and just sat there and watched...didn't say a word.

after a few days, Murilo noticed him always sitting there and approached him. Rousimar then told him that he has no money to train but is very dedicated and that was all Murilo needed to hear and they got to training. according to FightSport mag, on his very first day, he was giving Minotauro and Filho problems on the ground. anyways, within the first week, he submitted pretty much all of BTT's finest (minotauro, minotouro, filho, cacareco, viera, sperry, busta) all by heel hook. that's why you were always hearing Filho, Arona, Sperry, Busta and all them hyping him up prior to ADCC 07. this story was told to the BTT Long Beach instructor who then shared it w/ his students (Murilos Black Belt Marcelo Perdomo).

Rousimar just trained at BTT all day, and then slept under bridges and at bus stops at night. when Murilo and Sperry found out, they of course took him in and gave him a place to stay.

apparently, he never really had a passion to complete in sport BJJ or submission grappling, his dream is to be an MMA fighter representing Jiu Jitsu. already mentioned by Hinch, he competed in the ADCC Brazilian Trials as a purple belt and submitted Romulo Barral which is HUGE. not only submitting a black belt as a purple, but submitting Romulo effin Barral haha. he came to the trials somewhat injured in the first place, so after his match w/ Barral he was too injured to continue and injured Barral in the process.

BTT felt Rousimar should compete in ADCC to get his name out there, but again as mentioned was stopped due to visa issues.

Rousimar never competed in any of the big tournaments (Mundial, Pan-ams, Nationals etc), i thought for sure he had a wrestling background, but only trained wrestling w/ BTT and was a natural. so basically his biggest credential would be ADCC Brazilian Trials ha.

he got his brown belt after the Brazilian Trials and then got his Black Belt in December 2007 after winning the 83KG FuryFC GP. he received his Black Belt in FOUR YEARS from Bustamante and Bebeo Duarte. 4 years is fassttt.

watch out for this guy, he's extremely strong, has no problem taking fights to the ground, technical, athletic, and very aggressive on the ground...and most of all, he came from nothing and is veryyy HUNGRY.

in his first match, he used his prize money to buy his mother pots and pans....after winning the FuryFC GP he promised his mother he would buy her a house. you can count on Rousimar to never slack off, he is always training.

All credit to Nameover at Sherdog.. I couldn't remember where this post was to move it in here. It's because I suck.
